Though California Natural pet food is complete and balanced nutrition, there are times when a supplement can help to counter the increased demands of aging, illness, high-energy activity, pregnancy, lactation and the stress associated with travel to shows and boarding.
California Natural Skin & Coat Supplement is loaded with natural vitamins and nutritional extracts that provide a full complement of antioxidants to enhance immune system response. Sunflower oil, rich in linoleic acid for healthy skin and coat, and flaxseed for a balanced fatty acid profile, gives dogs or cats the extra nutritional support when it's needed most.
California Natural Skin & Coat Supplement is available in 16 oz. and 32 oz. bottles.

Sunflower Oil
(naturally preserved with mixed Tocopherols) Sunflower oil is obtained by extracting oil from sunflower seeds.
Natura uses sunflower oil to provide the essential fatty acid, linoleic acid, which is important for good skin and coat health.
Flaxseed Oil
Flaxseed Oil is obtained by extracting oil from the seed of the Flax (Linseed) plant.
Flaxseed oil is a good source of alpha-linolenic acid, an important Omega 3 fatty acid.
Lecithin
Lecithin is a specific phospholipid and the principal constituent of crude phosphatides derived from oil-bearing seeds.
Lecithin is a good source of choline, essential for normal fatty acid transport within cells. It is obtained chiefly from soybeans, corn and egg yolk.
Ascorbic Acid
Ascorbic acid is a white, crystalline, water-soluble vitamin, occurring naturally in citrus fruits, green vegetables, etc.
Ascorbic acid is a form of vitamin C, which is an antioxidant good for normal metabolism. Natura also uses the sodium ascorbate form of vitamin C for a preservative.
Vitamin B12 (Cyanocobalamin)
Vitamin B12 is a complex water-soluble organic compound that is essential to a number of microorganisms and animals.
Cyanocobalaminis necessary for normal processing of carbohydrate, protein, and fat in the body. It is important for the normal production of certain amino acids and fats and in the formation and maintenance of the nervous system. This nutrient is only found in foods of animal origin. Rich sources of Vitamin B12 include meat, poultry, fish and dairy products. This vitamin is also unique among the B complex vitamins in that, once absorbed from the diet, excesses can be stored by the body. Deficiencies of this vitamin are extremely rare in animals due to the small amount needed by the body, and the body's ability to store appreciable amounts.

Beta Carotene
Beta Carotene is a carotenoid derived from plants that can serve as a precursor to vitamin A in the dog but not the cat. Beta Carotene also has antioxidant properties that can be beneficial to both dogs and cats.
Although several different carotenoids are capable of providing vitamin A, Beta Carotene is the most plentiful in foods and has the highest biological activity. Meat and poultry do not contain carotenoids but can provide active vitamin A when included in the diet. Milk, liver, egg yolk, and carrots contain high amounts of Beta Carotene. Both dogs and cats readily absorb Beta Carotene, and studies have shown this carotenoid may have a function in cell-mediated and body immune responses in these species.
